Santa Catalina Island Avalon Bay

After a five hour sail from Newport Beach, CA, overnight at Santa Catalina Island’s Avalon Bay (two-day minimum), a beautiful Mediterranean-like full-service island and village rising up the mountainside from the sparkling bay where you'll sleep at anchor or mooring and go ashore by local water taxi ... or row ashore and back in Dulcinea's dingy. (The music goes on but the water taxi stops at midnight.) Avalon offers restaurants and bars, shops, bed and breakfasts, concerts and theater, the Casino, shower facilities, hiking trails, golf, bike rentals, diving, snorkeling, kayaking and... mooring off the palm-tree lined Descanso Beach.

After sailing, anchor out at numerous remote coves and beaches around Santa Catalina Island and swim, snorkel, sun bathe, kayak, hike ashore, beach comb, and dine out.... at night, at anchor. Special arrangements can be made for an anniversary, birthday, special event, or honeymoon. Or, all this off the boat swimladder from a reserved mooring at Emerald Bay and Indian Rock.

Off Oxnard and Santa Barbara, the Channel Islands offer remote and unspoiled anchorage and beaches for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, sun bathing, and hiking Nature Conservancy trails through long abandoned olive groves and windswept and sun-drenched canyons. No facilities - grilled dining at anchor. Four day minimum from Newport Beach/Balboa.

Qualifications:

Captain Don Moseley, the skipper and owner of the Dulcinea, is a 15-year sailing veteran of Greek, Turkish, South Pacific, and Californian waters, a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton licensed captain, certified marine surveyor and delivery captain, ASA-certified sailing and navigating instructor, certified SCUBA diver, and licensed professional engineer (past life). He loves and respects the sea and enjoys helping others share the pleasures and challenges of the sea.

Vessel:

	The DULCINEA, a beautiful 1986 Hunter 45 sloop-rigged sailing yacht,  accommodates four overnight passengers in private berths (double occupancy).
	DULCINEA's well-appointed and comfortable accommodations include two double-berth cabins and heads, linens, large galley with frig, freezer, broiler, micro-wave and complete utensils, TV, wireless internet access, cockpit grill, dingy w/motor, tandem kayak and snorkeling gear to make your live aboard sailing instruction or vacation cruise a memorable experience.
Operational equipment includes full instrumentation, radar, GPS, chartplotter, Loran, VHF, EPIRB, generator, dingy, transom ladder with stern pulpit gate, roller furling jib and mainsail, plus spinnaker, watermaker, PV cells. Motor propulsion is by a YANMAR turbo-charged diesel. Cruising speed, sail or power, is about seven knots.

Transportation:

Balboa is a 20 minute Super Shuttle ride from Orange County John Wayne Airport and about 1-1/2 hour from LAX. Inquire about transportation.

Weather and Seas:

Actual anchorage and activities are subject to wind, swell, and other weather and sea conditions. The safety of the guests, crew, and vessel are primary.

Safety, Legal, Insurance:

• DULCINEA is a legally operated, well-equipped, fully insured, USCG inspected Hunter 45 that meets and exceeds the USCG regulations for a vessel carrying passengers for hire:
     (1) USCG Documented Vessel with Coastwise Trade commercial endorsement.
     (2) Meets or exceeds all USCG Uninspected Passenger Vessel, UPV, CFR safety requirements and equipment for a motorized commercial vessel carrying paying passengers and students. While not required, DULCINEA has been USCG inspected and certified.
      (3) Legally skippered by a USCG licensed master with the appropriate Coastal Waters license, motorized Sailing Vessel endorsements, current zero-tolerance Drug Test Certificate, and other requirements.
      (4) Legal operation with documented vessel, UPV equipment and licensed captain, allow it to meet commercial charter insurance requirements that cover it's students and passengers. 
      (5) Appropriate business licenses and permits.

• Dulcinea's guests agree to and are subject to zero tolerance limitation on drugs and illegal activities. DON'T EVEN ASK.

• Responsible guest behavior is required subject to safety considerations, maritime law, and the Captain's discretion.
